With the development of electromobility, the number of charging stations for electric vehicles is also necessarily increasing. Many of such stations are located outside of buildings, i.e. in the lightning protection zone LPZ 0.

Publicly accessible charging stations must be protected against overvoltages. To protect electric vehicle charging stations as well as other voltage transformers installed in the LPZ 0 zone SALTEK developed new combined type 1 and type 2 surge arresters. The FLP-EV12,5-VBH/3S+1 is designed for three-phase connection and, at the same time, for connecting the FLP-EV12,5-VBH/1S+1 to a single-phase system, if such is used. These SPDs are designed for the AC side of TN-S and TT power supply systems, and are standardly equipped with a potential-free switching contact for remote indication of the SPD status.

The design of these surge protectors allows coordination with varistors installed in the charging station, if necessary. The SPDs can also operate smoothly in locations with fluctuating voltage. They do not exhibit leakage current, which meets the requirements of distribution companies for island charging stations, namely that the surge arrester must be installed before the point of consumption. With these SPDs there is also no follow-on current in the 230/400 VAC networks, i.e. they do not load the upstream protection elements. The SPDs must be installed in the direction of current flow, upstream of the residual current circuit breakers located in the charging station.
